Yesterday I saw Crna macka, beli macor for the second time, thanks to a very long-standing wishlist item on my TiVo. (I first saw it several years ago at a film festival.)
This film is one of the very best I have ever had the pleasure of watching. The writing is enthralling. The directing is masterful. The acting is superb. It has subtlety far beyond most Hollywood award winners, running themes more typical of well written epic novels than of screenplays, and sports some of the most convincing and magnificent backdrops of anything I've seen at the cinema. It is unpredictable, fast paced, and manages to avoid all the typical movie clichés. It has romance, action, guns, trains, surrealism (walking tree stumps!), sex, slapstick, references to cinematographic classics, word plays, the works. In short, Crna macka, beli macor rocks.
Probably the best feature of the film, though, is the couple after which it is named. They aren't really central to the story itself, but the film simply wouldn't be the same without them.
In conclusion, if you have a chance of seeing this film, take it. You will not be disappointed.
