So apparently my hard disk issues (which, while not actively causing me any I/O errors right now, are causing my hard drive to make the most obscene noises) are not enough. They have been joined by cable modem issues.

Some quick research suggests this is quite a serious problem and I won't be fixing it by doing anything simple like rebooting the modem. Oh well. Now you know why I keep disconnecting from IRC.
